Yoga day celebrated with pomp in city
Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan led the International Day of Yoga celebrations at Raj Bhavan which was organized by the central bureau of communication under the ministry of information and broadcasting.
While inaugurating the day, the governor said that yoga not only helps individuals achieve physical fitness, but also offers a path to attain mental calmness and spiritual upliftment. Students from the Christ Nagar school also participated in the yoga programme at the Raj Bhavan.
Meanwhile, the Pangode military station organised a spectacular underwater yoga session. It was performed by trained Amphibious Warriors under the guidance of expert yoga instructor and free diver Jyothi Singh.
The personnel of Southern Air Command and its various units celebrated the day at the headquarters, which was attended by a large number of personnel along with their families. Yoga sessions were conducted by instructors across various units of Southern Air Command.
The air warriors of the Air Force Station conducted yoga at various heritage sites across the city such as Kanakakunnu Palace, Tsunami Park (Shanghumugham beach) and Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple.
At SAI LNCPE around 350 students, athletes, trainees, faculty members, coaches and staff participated in the mass yoga demonstration at the LNCPE athletics stadium. G Kishore, principal and regional head of SAI LNCPE presided over the function.

At Sainik School, Kazhakkoottam a yoga session was conducted by cadets and staff members of the school at Captain Harshan Pavilion. Col Dhirendra Kumar, principal, Sainik School, led the yoga session.
State police chief Anil Kant led the celebration of the state police by taking part in the yoga session at Chandrashekaran Nair stadium. All top police officials from the district and students from different schools participated in the yoga session.
S M Sharma, divisional railway manager and M Vijaya Kumar, additional divisional railway manager, officers, and staff participated in the yoga practice session organised by the Thiruvananthapuram division of Southern Railway.
Principal district and sessions judge PV Balakrishnan inaugurated the yoga programme organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). District judge Seshadrinathan and other judges in Thiruvananthapuram district centre, DLSA Thiruvananthapuram secretary and sub-judge S Shamnad took part in the programme.
