Truck with Hydrogen cylinders catches fire in Khanna of Punjab's Ludhiana district
LUDHIANA: A truck full of hydrogen cylinders caught fire on Rara Sahib Road near Ghudani village of Khanna on Wednesday night. The fire brigade reached the spot and brought the fire under control and it didn’t explode the cylinders in the truck.
Police officials said that the truck full of hydrogen cylinder was going from Rajpura to a factory in Raikot. They added that the truck had 285 cylinders and while going from Payal to Rara Sahib, the tyre of the truck burst near village Ghudani.
Police officials further said that due to tyre puncture, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and it hit a tree. They added that after that fuel tank of the vehicle caught fire and the truck driver escaped and saved his life.
Cops said that the fire spread to the body of the truck and a villager, who was passing by, saw the fire and informed the police. They added that after getting information police and fire brigade staff reached the spot.
Fire department employee Sukhdeep Singh said that due to the fire, the entire truck got burnt and there was major loss. He claimed that one cylinder also got burst in the incident.
Sukhdeep Singh added that it took them about half an hour to forty five minutes to control the fire with the help of foam.
DSP Payal Harsimrat Singh said that there was no blast in any hydrogen cylinder. He added that blast would have occurred if there was leakage in cylinder or if temperature would have increased to very high, but fire was brought under control by the fire brigade on time.
