"Around 12.30pm, jail officials carried out a search on the premises and found them hanging from a tree with their vests tied around the necks," said the SP.
Senior officials along with a forensic team and a dog squad reached the jail in presence of a magistrate to examine the spot.
The SP said the bodies had no injury marks and were sent to the district hospital for postmortem after permission from judicial magistrate.
We have also informed their families,” th SP said. Police said the duo were accused of murdering one Om Prasad Yadav in Amethi on May 26. “They were arrested on May 30 and sent to Sultanpur jail. No family member visited them in the jail,” said SHO, Jamo (Amethi), Vivek Kumar Singh.
SHO said that the two undertrials in their police statement had claimed that they had murdered Om Prasad Yadav mistaking him for their rival Jitendra. Barma said the two accused were dejected and full of remorse for killing an innocent and perhaps that was the reason they decided to end their lives.
