CHENNAI: Even though the rain has slowed down, residents of the city will have to live with the slushy roads with craters for a few weeks to come.
In some parts like Madipakkam and Manapakkam, the corporation will be relaying the roads only after metro water constructs its sewage lines while in parts such as Porur, Mugalivakkam, Ramapuram and Valasaravakkam, the corporation is yet to finalise tenders to relay the roads.
Pughavendhan V, a civic activist, said the metro water has dug up many areas around Chettiyaragaram, Porur, Thundalam and Alapakkam.
"Some works have been stalled for two years now. The dug up stand has been stolen at night. Once, I raised the issue with the contractor and ended up facing threats. Senior citizens and children suffer due to the slushy roads and craters during rains for years now," he said.
As there is no mud, the civic agencies have not closed up pits for months now, said Pughalventhan.
"They have to arrange alternatives to fix the roads here," he said.
Residents of Mugaliivakkam too rued of slushy roads that's been the case for months.
Preethi Ramadoss of Mugalivakkam said the Madhanandapuram main road has been battered for months now, and the recent rains have made it worse. "My father and I, both use two-wheelers and it keeps skidding ," added Preethi.
