Ramgarh: The fire in a coal dump at the railway siding along Bhurkunda railway station on Muri-Daltonganj route of East Central Railway (ECR) was doused, said Dhananjay Yadav of Railway Siding Handling Committee engaged in coal handling at the site, on Monday.
During a press conference, Yadav accused anti-social elements of setting fire to the coal dump. “We have also lodged a complaint with Bhadaninagar police station against unidentified miscreants,” he said.
Several people have encroached upon the railway land near the station and have been creating disturbance in coal handling at the siding, said a statement released by the committee for media. “The fire was not due to spontaneous heating but it was a handiwork of anti-social elements. That's why the fire suddenly intensified last week despite all necessary precautions taken as per railway safety guidelines,” the committee said.
Local MP and chairman of parliamentary standing committee on finance Jayant Sinha recently visited the spot and asked railways, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and administration officials to take immediate effective steps to the douse massive fire.
Later, Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy, convenor of Damodar Bachao campaign, too visited the spot and demanded immediate steps.
Meanwhile, Birendra Kumar, East Central Railway CPRO, said the fire was completely doused with continuous fire fighting with fire engines deployed by the local administration.
SDO Md Javed Hussain, Ramgarh said four fire tenders from local industrial units were deployed at the site and the fire was completely doused while administration has directed railways, CCL and local coal handling committee to keep close watch on any new fire and take action before it spreads.
