HYDERABAD: Sporadic cases of dengue are being reported from the city and other parts of the state. A total of 200 cases have been reported across the state so far this year, a majority of which have been reported in Hyderabad city.
In 2022, a total of 8,756 cases were reported in the state and officials estimate that a similar number might be seen this year too. Currently however, most of the cases being reported have been mild in nature. While a handful of cases have been reported at tertiary centres like Osmania General Hospital and Fever hospital, primary health centres too are seeing cases off late.
Individual doctors have been seeing cases from different parts of the state as well. "Patients are coming from places such as Bhadrachalam, Ibrahimpatnam, Ranga Reddy, Khammam and Warangal, apart from sporadic cases from the city. This is the early phase of dengue. Cases will increase in July," said Dr M Karuna, a paediatrician.
Around 5% of cases become severe, say doctors. A doctor from a state-run hospital, said, "Public must contact municipal corporation and report cases. Dengue mosquitoes tend to stay in a 200m range and spread the disease." Amar Singh Nayak, additional director vector-borne diseases, health department said, "We have started preparing logistics, medicines and tests. However, we do not expect cases to be severe."
