Nintendo Direct 2023: June Edition- Highlights from the showcase

Here are the Top 10 announcements made at the latest showcase, including Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario RPG Remake, Detective Pikachu Returns and more.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder announced

This official gameplay trailer of this new 2D Mario platformer was the grand big reveal of June’s Nintendo Direct 2023. Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be released on the Nintendo Switch this October 20, 2023. New features include talking flowers called Wonder Flowers, and the Elephant power-up. Princess Daisy will also be playable in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Super Mario RPG Remake Announced

As was being anticipated, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) classic, Super Mario RPG is getting a remake. The news was announced with a new trailer highlighting new graphics in the remake of the 1996 arcade game. Once again, you will get to take down Smithy Gang with Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, Mallow, Geno, and more. The game launches on Nintendo Switch on November 17, 2023.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Remaster and a Princess Peach Game revealed

A visually enhanced version of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, that originally released on Nintendo 3DS has been announced to be in development. We also got a sneak peek into a brand-new game starring Princess Peach as the central character. Not much was revealed about it including the title of the game. However, it was announced that both the games will be released next year, 2024.

Pikmin 4- New gameplay trailer

This upcoming Pikmin game comes 10 years after the last instalment. The new elements to be introduced with Pikmin 4 were highlighted in the gameplay trailer revealed at the showcase. This includes a Dandori Battle mini-game, and new night expeditions, a first for the series, with new glow Pikmins that appear only at night. A demo on the game drops on June 28, 2023, along with HD versions of Pikmin 1 and 2 now available on the Nintendo Store.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC- New look

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion will be coming later this year in two parts. The Teal Mask, scheduled to launch this Fall, will take place at a festival in the countryside. The Indigo Disk releases this year in Winter and is set in a futuristic academy in the middle of the ocean. We got to see a new trailer of the anticipated DLC at the Nintendo Direct Showcase.

Detective Pikachu Returns

The sequel to the 2016 video game Detective Pikachu was revealed at the showcase. In the trailer launched, we once again get to see Tim Goodman, teaming up with Detective Pikachu for another adventure in Ryme City. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch on October 6, 2023. 

WarioWare: Move It! Announced

WarioWare: Move It! has been announced, coming to Nintendo Switch on November 6, 2023. It will include more than 200 minigames that you can play with the Switch Joy-Cons, with up to four players.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Announced

This new game was revealed at the showcase with a new trailer, showcasing a Pokemon like story presented by the Dragon Quest Monster franchise, where the protagonist can’t harm the monsters, but instead raises them into battling against one another. This game from Square Enix is set to release on the Switch on December 1st, 2023.

Star Ocean The Second Story R Announced

This is a remake of 1998’s Star Ocean: The Second Story that was announced at the Nintendo Direct showcase. The original pixel art style of the game has been reimagined with 2D and 3D graphics. It is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and PC via Steam on November 3, 2023. 

New gameplay trailer for Sonic Superstars and Persona 5 Tactica

Sonic Superstars was first revealed at Summer Game Fest 2023 as a 2D platformer similar to the original Sonic the Hedgehog games. It is coming to PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in Fall 2023.  

Persona 5 Tactica, first officially announced at the Xbox showcase earlier this month, also got a new gameplay trailer. The game is scheduled for launch on November 17, 2023.

Multiple new games announced

Some of the other new games to be showcased include first-person melee roguelike MythForce, a "cozy" free-to-play adventure simulation named Palia, 3D platforming adventure Penny’s Big Breakaway, and a farm simulation RPG titled Fae Farm. Silent Hope is another new action-RPG to be showcased at Nintendo Direct. Headbangers Rhythm Royale is a rhythm-based battle royale, that was also revealed at the showcase, along with Manic Mechanics, a 4 player co-op game about repairing vehicles.

Switch releases announced

A number of games will soon make their Switch debut like the Batman: Arkham Trilogy coming this Fall, Vampire Survivors on August 17, Gloomhaven on September 18, and Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged on October 19 this year.
