Crews begin rehabilitating 24th Street on Wednesday, June 21, 2023., on the south-end of a two-mile roadway slated for work between Dove and Lapeer roads on the border of the city of Port Huron and Port Huron Township.

Drivers may expect a minor delay in traffic when construction gets underway on 24th Street between Dove and Lapeer roads starting this week.

According to the St. Clair County Road Commission, the rehabilitation, covering close to two miles of roadway on the border between Port Huron Township and the city of Port Huron, will include milling the top layer of pavement and placing a new top coat of asphalt.

Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout construction with occasional flagging operations, and access to all businesses and side streets will also be maintained.

The rehab was expected to kick off on Wednesday and to wrap up by mid-July.

The project has a cost estimated at $625,882 and is being financed by the road commission, as well as the state and Federal Highway Administration.
