JMC-H officials seek legal action against mayor, councillors
Jaipur: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Heritage) commissioner Rajendra Singh Shekhawat has written a letter to the directorate of local bodies (DLB), requesting permission to take legal action against mayor Munesh Gurjar, her husband, and more than 10 councillors under the SC-ST Act.
The letter was prompted by a request on Monday from additional commissioner Rajendra Verma, who urged Shekhawat to file a complaint regarding a recent incident in which the mayor and other councillors allegedly subjected him to insults, abuse, threats, and derogatory caste-based remarks.
According to Verma's letter, which has been obtained by TOI, serious allegations have been made against the councillors and the mayor, accusing them of holding him hostage. Verma stated that on June 16, while performing his official duties at the JMC-H headquarters, he received a message at 3pm from the mayor's office, demanding his presence in her chamber. He was given only a 10-minute notice. However, after just 5 minutes, a group of councillors and individuals from outside barged into his room and started shouting loudly, claiming that Verma had not signed a tender file. About 30 people then took him to the mayor's chamber, where he was forcibly detained till 9pm, Verma alleged.
Verma clarified that he had informed the mayor in advance about his absence on May 30, when he was on leave, which prevented him from signing the proceedings on the file. He further explained that the file had already been submitted to the commissioner during the Upasana Samiti meeting on June 15, indicating that it was no longer under his jurisdiction.
Verma requested Shekhawat to file a complaint against several individuals, including mayor Munesh Gurjar, her husband Sushil Gurjar, deputy mayor Aslam Farooqui, councillors Umar Daraz, Neeraj Aggarwal, Shafi Qureshi, Sunita Mawar, Rabia Goodage, Anjali Brahmbhatt, Ayesha Siddiqui, Farid Qureshi, Mohammad Akhtar (husband of Ward 12 councillor), the son of the woman councilor from Ward 30, Phoolchand (an acquaintance of the councillor), and Basant Aswal (an acquaintance of the mayor).

A source said that the dispute revolves around the BITS system of allocating sanitation staff to wards.
