The media, claiming First Amendment press protection for articles, news segments and social media, have been overflowing lately with rumors about machinations in our executive branch. All employees of the branch swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” but it appears there are domestic enemies running amok at government expense.

As a World War II-era child living just five miles from an Army Air Corps base that training pilots, I saw first-hand heroes ready to die for America. Student pilots had holiday dinners with local families, and we were inundated with warnings about domestic enemies.

With that background, I find it unbelievable that anyone would question or disparage any government employee who was obeying their oath of office in accordance with whistleblower protections for federal employees.

I took my oath as an officer in the U.S. Air Force 66 years ago after a commencement speech by then Sen. John F. Kennedy. I stand in my walker today and render slow salutes when “Taps” is played for departed comrades. I may be too old to charge and maneuver, but I will still stand and guard a post with my life for America “against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
