Indian High Commission in Singapore observes International Yoga Day

The India High Commission hosted the 9th International Yoga Day, which drew over 150 individuals from the Indian community.

The High Commissioner P Kumaran led the hour-long celebration at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Little India, which also witnessed the release of a book on health, happiness, and peace.

"High Commissioner P Kumaran led Singapore Indian community leaders in celebrating international yoga day at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple on Wednesday and launched a special book on health, happiness and harmony," the High Commission said.

Archana Amlapure, who has been teaching yoga in Singapore for ten years, spent three years writing the 161-page book.

She claims that most yoga practitioners do physical poses, but she wants to promote yoga awareness as a lifestyle.

In world-record attempt, 3,000 persons with disabilities do asanas to mark International Yoga Day in Hyderabad

On Wednesday, as many as 3,000 people with disabilities did yoga together in an effort to break the global record at an event held to commemorate International Yoga Day, in which Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar participated.

 Yoga was done by 'divyangjan' (those with disabilities) from around the country, including individuals with vision impairment, hearing impairment, locomotor disability, intellectual and developmental impairments, autism, cerebral palsy, and thalassemia.

According to official sources, the mega event was appraised by the International World Book of Records, Asia Book of Records, and India Book of Records for the biggest number of people practising Yoga.

A Narayanaswamy, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, also attended the occasion.

Yoga brings peace of mind, inculcates self-discipline: Arunachal Governor

On Wednesday, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K T Parnaik (Retd) urged residents to do yoga on a daily basis in order to live a better lifestyle.

Participating on the International Yoga Day at Raj Bhavan, he stated that yoga improves physical strength and confidence, as well as having a beneficial and relaxing influence on practitioners.

Yoga, according to Parnaik, is one of ancient India's greatest contributions to the world.

"At the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this cultural asset of ancient Indian culture is spreading throughout the world," the governor continued.

He claims that in today's environment of stress and mental strain, yoga is the finest approach to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

With the Congress remembering India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, for his contribution to the popularisation of yoga, senior party leader Shashi Tharoor said on Wednesday that "we should also acknowledge all those who revived and popularised yoga, including our government," for internationalising the International Day of Yoga through the United Nations.

In a tweet, the Congress said, "On International Day of Yoga, we thank Pt Nehru, who was instrumental in popularising yoga and even made it a part of national policy."

The Congress also shared a photograph of Nehru performing yoga and doing a headstand.

We support PM Modi's efforts to boost tourism in India, says UNWTO secretary-general

According to a top UNWTO official in Goa, the UNWTO supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to promote tourism in India, a country rich in culture with "huge potential" to attract more investment in the sector.

Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organisation, talked to PTI on the eve of the G20 Tourism Ministerial Meeting and the International Day of Yoga, and expressed his satisfaction at the synchronicity.

The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) is a United Nations specialised body tasked with promoting ethical, sustainable, and widely accessible tourism.

To commemorate the day, G20 representatives from various nations did yoga 'asanas' on the grounds of the Raj Bhavan in Goa on Wednesday.

G20 delegates perform Yoga on 9th International Yoga Day at Raj Bhawan in Goa

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, G20 delegates practise yoga alongside Goa Governor PS Shreedharan Pillai, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, and Minister of Tourism and Defence Ajay Bhatt at Raj Bhawan in Goa on Wednesday.

While addressing the media, Goa Governor PS Shreedharan Pillai said, "The country achieved great success because more than 180 countries and we are observing this day. In the UN also our prime minister is participating. This is for the prosperity of the Indians.

"Concept of Vasudev Kutumbakam is there. So, for PM Modi, for the unity of the country and for the unity of the entire universe, all creatures in the world, that is our concept that is spreading," he added.

G20 delegates also shared their experiences, stating that yoga is beneficial for relaxation and focuses on the spiritual side.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar on Wednesday urged his countrymen and people around the world to do yoga in order to achieve global unity.

Dhankhar led the national celebration of the 9th International Day of Yoga 2023 at Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur city.

The vice president and other dignitaries took part in a 'Vasudhaiv Kutumbukam Ke Liye Yoga' communal yoga activity at the Garrison Ground here.

Dhankar emphasised the significance of this year's International Day of Yoga topic. It displays the complexity and diversity of Indian culture.

The theme is 'Vasudhav Kutumbakam Ke Liye Yoga', which means one earth, one family and one future and this is the theme of the G20 also which the country is currently chairing, he said.

Union ministers, L-G lead yoga day celebrations in Delhi

On Wednesday, Delhi marked the International Day of Yoga with activities around the national capital that included political leaders and authorities.

Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Mansukh Mandviya, and Piyush Goyal, as well as Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, attended yoga activities in the city.

Union Petroleum Minister Puri shared a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recorded message being screened during the event.

Yoga activities were held in the national capital in Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Kartavya Path, New Moti Bagh-IAS Residences area, Sanjay Jheel, Singapore Park, and Central Park-Connaught Place.

On Wednesday morning, parts of the national capital experienced light rain, providing some relief from the sweltering heat.

The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) forecasted a thunderstorm with light to moderate-intensity rain and strong gusts over and near isolated sections of Delhi.

On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy rain in ten states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations is very possible across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Wednesday, as well as heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations over Assam and Meghalaya.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) are also expected in isolated areas of Uttarakhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh, according to the IMD.

The IMD also predicted isolated lightning strikes over Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and coastal and south interior Karnataka on Wednesday.

It also predicted that on June 22, heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
