For visitors, Bhutan is all prepared to lower its sustainable tourism tax, who will stay for longer than four nights in the country.
This decision is taken by the government to draw greater number of tourists to the South Asian country and help in the revival of visitor numbers after the pandemic.
For vacationers, Bhutan is famous for having world’s some of the highest fees, charging a sustainable tourism tax of $200-a-night per visitor for staying there from the time the country has reopened last year after remaining closed for two years.
The fee had been fixed at a heavier side of $65pp per night, prior to this, for the last three decades.
All set to discourage budget travellers and draw more rich ones who are bothered of the environment, the money from the SDF will be utilized to safeguard the natural landscapes of Bhutan and counterbalance carbon footprints of the tourists.
But, under the recent measures, travellers who choose to stay for more days will pay less. Tourists who stay for four days can continue for an additional four days, from June until the end of 2024, without paying extra daily charges. The ones who stay for 12 days can continue for a full month without paying any additional SDF.
This signifies that tourists who stay for eight days will pay $800, a saving of $800.
