THANE: A
sports analyst maimed for life in a road mishap was awarded Rs 30.96 lakh by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal of Thane. The victim, Onkar Shende, 24, a resident of Mohol in Solapur in his plea to the tribunal pleaded that he worked as a sports analyst with a private company earning a salary of Rs 20,200 per month.
The accident occurred on October 28, 2019 at around 2.00am while he was travelling in a luxury bus on the Pune-Solapur road. As the bus reached Daund, the driver drove at high speed and dashed another bus. Due to this, he suffered severe injuries for which he was treated at private hospitals at Daund and in Pune. In his plea, he said that he had already incurred an expense of Rs 3 lakh towards treatment and was still undergoing medical care. He further stated that due to the accident he had to undergo treatment, suffered loss of income, got injuries as well in the state of incapacity to work along with the pecuniary and non-pecuniary losses. The counsel for the claimant also informed the tribunal that the claimant suffered 60% disability due to amputation below the knee of the right leg and had also sustained fracture to the left leg.The owner of the bus did not appear and the matter was decided ex-parte against him.
In his order Walimohammad, member of the MACT, directed the insurance company to pay the compensation amount.
