Dibrugarh: A 58-year-old prominent businessman, Sadagar Boruah, from Dhemaji town, died after allegedly shooting himself in the head with his licensed pistol inside his residence on Tuesday.
Boruah, a resident of Bhadrapara area in Dhemaji town, was alone in his room when the incident took place around 10am. Police recovered a blank cartridge from the bed of the victim, along with the pistol. “We are investigating the incident. Right now, we can’t say whether it was an accident or suicide. The body has been sent for post-mortem and we are waiting for the report. The pistol will be sent for forensic examination,” Dhemaji SP Ranjan Bhuyan said.
According to the police, the bullet caused a single entry and exit wound on Boruah’s head and also pierced a glass pane of a window in the room. It has been learnt that the victim was supposedly undergoing treatment for a critical disease over the past one-and-a-half years.
The victim’s son, Danish Boruah, claimed that it was death by accident. “My father use to clean his licensed pistol from time to time. He was alone in his room when the incident happened. I think he accidentally pressed the trigger while cleaning the weapon,” he said.
