Thiruvananthapuram: Cantonment police have arrested three persons, including a
Tamil Nadu native, in three different incidents for selling banned tobacco products and cigarettes to students.
Several packets of banned tobacco products and cigarette packets were seized from them as well.
The arrested have been identified by police as Muhammed Firoz, 31, of Erappil Veedu Nedumangad, Sait Muhammed Gani, 48, of Tirunelveli, and Raveendran, 68, of Aishwarya Bhavan at Kannammoola.
Muhammed Firoz was arrested with about 100 packets of banned tobacco products from the vicinity of Government Eye Hospital at Kannammoola while trying to sell them to students. An amount of Rs 8,500 has also been seized from him.
Sait Muhammed was also arrested near the eye hospital while trying to sell the items to students. Over 100 packets of banned tobacco products and cigarette packets were seized from his possession.
Meanwhile, Raveendran was arrested from the vicinity of St Joseph school with nearly 100 packets of banned tobacco products and cigarette packets.
A case has been registered against them under sections 6 and 24 of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act-2003 and 118 (i) of the KP Act-2011.
