International Day of Yoga 2023: PM Modi to lead the event at UN headquarters today

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the UN and international community to celebrate International Day of Yoga today. Various arrangements have also been made across India to raise awareness about the ancient Indian practice and its numerous benefits.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the UN leadership and international community at the United Nations Headquarters to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on June 21. It is the ninth year since the UN recognised June 21 as the International Day of Yoga through a resolution in 2014.

Meanwhile, various arrangements have also been made across India to raise awareness about the ancient Indian practice and its numerous benefits.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will join Indian Navy personnel aboard the INS Vikrant, an indigenous aircraft carrier, to perform yoga. The event will be attended by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar, President of Naval Welfare and Wellness Association Kala Hari Kumar, and other senior officers from the Indian Navy and Ministry of Defence. Armed forces personnel, including Agniveers, will partake in the session, promoting unity and well-being. 

Additionally, the Indian Navy will stream a video highlighting their outreach activities and units deployed in the Indian Ocean Region will visit friendly foreign ports to spread the message of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" on International Day of Yoga.

The Culture Ministry is set to commemorate the International Day of Yoga (IDY) with great enthusiasm. All organizations under the ministry have been instructed to fully participate in the event and adhere to the approved Common Yoga Protocol. 

To expand the reach and involvement, it has been suggested to observe IDY 2023 at iconic sites, with the assistance of the Archaeological Survey of India's circle offices. Minister of State for Culture Meenakshi Lekhi will be present at Purana Qila, New Delhi, while Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal will be the Chief Guest at Nurmahal Sarai in Jalandhar. 

Furthermore, TRIFED has supplied 34,000 unique Yoga mats created by tribal artisans to the Ayush Ministry, not only benefiting the tribal communities economically but also preserving and promoting their distinctive artistic traditions.

Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports organized "Yoga Mahotsav" on Tuesday at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi in run up to the International Day of Yoga, 2023 (IDY-2023).
