Polyester-cotton (PC) yarn prices have fallen due to weak demand in India, specifically in the Ludhiana market, where prices decreased by ₹3-4 per kg. Meanwhile, prices for polyester spun yarn have increased by ₹2-3 per kg due to a rise in raw material costs.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) increased the prices of polyester fibre raw materials, which in turn supported the price of recycled polyester fibre. This indicates the international market's support for the upstream value chain of polyester. RIL takes international market trends into account when setting the prices of its raw materials.

The Ludhiana market has displayed a mixed trend in this segment. While PC yarn prices dropped by ₹2-3 per kg, prices for polyester spun yarn showed an upward trend over the last week. For instance, the price of 30 count polyester spun yarn increased by ₹2-3 per kg. A trader from Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “The demand for PC yarn didn't improve, leading mills to struggle with clearing their stock. This has resulted in lower prices in the Ludhiana market.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) steadied at ₹204-214 per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) was stable at ₹190-200 per kg; 30 count poly spun was noted at ₹152-160 per kg (GST inclusive); and the recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹69-72 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

In the Surat market, poly spun yarn prices remained steady with no significant changes in market conditions. The 30-count poly spun yarn was traded at ₹135-136 per kg (GST extra) and 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹151-152 per kg. In Mumbai, the price of 30 count viscose yarn (local) also remained stable at ₹185-195 per kg, excluding GST.

RIL has recently updated its prices as PTA at ₹82.10 per kg (an increase of ₹0.40), MEG at ₹48.90 per kg (unchanged), and MELT at ₹87.23 per kg (an increase of ₹0.34). These new prices for polyester raw materials took effect last Saturday. Earlier in the fortnight, the company maintained the price of polyester staple fibre (PSF) at ₹102 per kg.

Cotton prices in north India have remained stable despite poor demand, maintaining previous levels. The natural fibre was traded at ₹5,850-5,950 per maund of 37.2 kilograms in Punjab, ₹5,650-5,750 per maund in Haryana, and ₹6,000-6,125 per maund in upper Rajasthan. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was sold at ₹55,000-56,500 per candy of 356 kg.
