Expect warm days, mercury to touch 38C by weekend
Gurgaon: The city on Tuesday saw an increase in temperature even though it received light showers around 5.30am. The maximum temperature was recorded at 36.3 degrees Celsius, while it was 32.9 degrees Celsius on Monday.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.4 degrees Celsius, 2.2 notches above Monday’s 25.2 degrees. The city sweat it out as the humidity level was recorded at 71%. The rainfall was measured at 2mm till 8.30am on Tuesday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi- NCR will witness thunderstorms with light-to-moderate rain till June 26 because of cyclonic conditions. The maximum temperature will be around 37 to 38 degrees Celsius by weekend.
“Light-to-moderate rain is likely at isolated places. No significant change in maximum temperature will be witnessed during the next 48 hours and there will be a drop in mercury level by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius thereafter,” an IMD official said. Western disturbances and moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal resulted in fairly widespread showers across the state during March, April and May.
The city’s air quality index (AQI) deteriorated from ‘satisfactory’ on Monday to ‘moderate’ category on Tuesday. The index was recorded at 104.
According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), “The predominant surface wind is likely to be coming from northwest and west to Delhi-NCR with a speed of 20-30kmph. The region will also see partly cloudy sky, and very light rain at one or two placestill June 26.”

The capital also experienced a hot and humid day on Tuesday with generally clear skies and moist winds.
The weather department expects such conditions to continue on Wednesday. It also predicted very light rain to drizzle in different parts of Delhi late Tuesday night and late Wednesday night.
On Tuesday, the capital’s base station recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal.
“The temperature may further rise on Wednesday, and thereafter gradually rise for another three days, with the possibility of rain again from June 25 onwards,” said an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The air quality index (AQI) of Delhi on Tuesday, on a scale of 0 to 500, was ‘moderate’ at 104.
