Assam Science and Technology University (Astu) on Monday held its 3rd convocation at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International auditorium of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. Degrees were handed out to 2,768 postgraduate and undergraduate students who passed out between 2021 and 2022.
Fifteen gold medals and 50 topper’s certificates were also awarded to the toppers.
Speaking on the occasion, the chancellor of the university and governor Gulab Chand Kataria, said the varsity has come a long way to make a mark in the field of technical education and expressed hope that it will continue to operate with commitment and value, and encourage all to put efforts for the progress of the society.
Congratulating the graduates, Kataria said, “This convocation marks the outcome of months and years of commitment, hard work and perseverance. You are graduates now and ready to prove yourselves on larger platforms and to work towards the betterment of the society and the nation. From now onwards, you all have a greater responsibility and I wish you luck for the new phase of your life”.
Renowned meteorologist, climatologist and the former director of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, Prof. Bhupendra Nath Goswami, was the guest of honor on the occasion.
He said, “As the only technical university dedicated to science and technology in northeast India, Astu fills an important gap in higher education and research in the region.”
Vice chancellor of Astu, Prof. Narendra S Chaudhari said, “Astu is collectively working to understand and explore the possibilities for a systematic implementation of National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020) for the benefit of our stakeholders and our society. The first phase of the comprehensive action plan for NEP-2020 implementation in different UG/PG programs of the University has been formulated.”
He added that the state government has recently declared Astu as a ‘Teaching and Research University’ which will facilitate aligning of the teaching-learning process of the university as per the vision of NEP-2020.
Prof. Chaudhari said the University is currently offering 11 undergraduate engineering, 11 postgraduate engineering, 18 other undergraduate, 18 other post graduate, 3 diploma and 13 doctoral programmes.
