Panaji: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Tuesday said that it has decided to presently include the Cuncolim Revolt – 1583 in the ‘History of Goa’ section of the Social Science I textbook of Class IX, for the academic year 2023-24.
In a circular addressed to the heads of the recognised secondary schools, the Goa Board said that the teachers teaching History for Class IX shall download the same.
It has also informed that the new textbook of History for Class IX, will be implemented from the academic year 2024-25 onwards.
The syllabus on Cuncolim Revolt includes background, causes, course, consequences and significance. In this revolt, a European Jesuit priest and other priests were killed for converting people and in retaliation the Portuguese executed the chieftains of Cuncolim through trickery by inviting them on the pretext of parleys.
The Goa Board has also provided a list of information/ matter from the Social Science II textbook of Class X that will not be for evaluation for the coming Board exam scheduled in March/ April 2024.
It includes items like the Johannesburg Summit, Project Tiger, Minor Irrigation Schemes, Natural Tanks (Lakes) in Goa, Main Iron Ore Bearing Zones in Goa, Indian Distribution of Sugar Industry, Aluminium Industry, Location of Pharmaceutical Industries in India, Features of the Industrial Policy in Goa, Tourist Arrivals in Goa Data for the Year and so on.
