SURAT: A 33-year-old software professional has filed a case against six persons, including three women, for extorting Rs 10.13 lakh from him. He was lured with good services at a newly opened spa in Althan.
Police nabbed one person, Virendra alias Ram Kakadiya, in the case and were looking for other members of the gang.
According to police, on June 9, Virendra called the victim on WhatsApp to tell him that he had opened a new spa on VIP road and it was ready with new facilities. When the victim went there, one person led him to an apartment of two-storey residential building. There a woman was already waiting for the victim.
Some time after the door was locked, there was a knock on the door. When victim opened the door, two persons rushed in and introduced themselves as policemen and started abusing him. At that time, two other women were shouting near the apartment.
The two men accused the the victim of indulging in illegal acts and asked for money from him. They made him transfer Rs 10.13 lakh from his bank account in the USA. They also threatened to kill him if he revealed it to anyone.
Althan police inspector B B Karpada said, “The victim was in the USA before he came back to Surat. As he is a software professional and he has dealing in the USA, he has a bank account there.”
Earlier, the man went for massage at a spa in Adajan where he came in contact with Virendra. “We found that Virendra is a habitual offender and he was also involved in some crime in the past. We are trying to nab other members of the gang.”
Police registered a case under charges of extortion and other relevant Sections of IPC.
