Mayor raids illegal meat shops in Govind Nagar
Kanpur: Mayor Pramila Pandey on Monday raided illegal meat shops being run on roadside near Parag Dairy in Govind Nagar area.
She besides reprimanding the vendors also summoned the zonal officer Vinay Pratap Singh and in-charge of Saket Nagar police outpost asking them on whose orders the animals were being slaughtered and meat sold openly.
According to municipal corporation sources, the mayor had received reports that chicken and goats were being illegally slaughtered at roadside openly and the meat was being sold. As per the Nagar Nigam Act, slaughtering of animals in open and selling their meat illegally. The mayor raided the area and found slaughtering of animals in the area. The zonal officer and the police official both did not take any action against illegal slaughtering of animals
Angry over the act the mayor issued a warning to the zonal officer and others and said that strict action would be taken against them if the meat market opened there again. “Due to open slaughtering of animals and selling of their meat there is an apprehension of spread of diseases which is completely illegal and cannot be allowed at any cost”, the mayor said. The officials thereafter removed the roadside meat market in compliance with the orders of the mayor.
