IMD heatwave alert: These states to witness high temperature for next two days

Even after monsoon entry in India, several states are still suffering from immense heat and soaring temperature for past few days. Scorching heat will continue to trouble people in Vidarbha region, and others living in isolated pockets of Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and East Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, heatwave to very severe heatwave conditions are very likely to continue in some pockets over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana during next two days. Afterwards, there are expectations of some respite in the heatwave conditions in these states. Days ago, IMD Scientist, Naresh Kumar had predicted that Delhi, Punjab and Haryana will witness temperatures up to 40-45 degrees in the upcoming days.

On Tuesday, IMD has predicted fall in temperature by 2-3 degree Celsius in parts of Madhya Pradesh. 

11 more people died in UP, 2 in Bihar amid heatwave 

Scorching heat took several lives in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. With temperature rising to unbearable levels, two people lost their lives in Bihar's Gaya on Monday. The two died at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College in Bihar. Similar, condition is prevailing in Uttar Pradesh, where 11 more patients died at a hospital in Balia district due to heatstroke on Monday.

The medical college was reported to admit around 58 patients on Monday, mainly due to heatstroke. In the wake of increasing number of admitted patients,  Hospital Superintendent Shree Prakash Singh said that 25 more beds have been increased in the heat stroke ward which is set up at the hospital.

"Currently, 58 patients suffering from heatwave have been admitted here. Out of which two have died and the rest are undergoing treatment. 25 more beds have been increased in the heat stroke ward. The number of doctors has been increased and all necessary facilities have been made available," he said.

In the wake of rising temperature, Patna District Magistrate has suspended all academic activities up to Class 12 till June 24.

In UP's Ballia district, death toll rose to 68 in five days, officials told PTI. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained by the officials after enquiry. The deaths are being reported in the backdrop of severe heatwave conditions in the state, but Ballia Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Jayant Kumar has made it clear that only two people died due to heat stroke in the district till Sunday.
