Stable monthly prices amid 13% YoY inflation in Poland for May 2023

Consumer prices in Poland for May 2023 increased by 13.0 per cent year-on-year (YoY) with an increase of prices of goods—by 13.3 per cent and services—by 12.3 per cent. As related to the previous month, prices of both goods and services remained at the same level.

The clothing and footwear sector showed an index increase to 107.4 in May 2023 from the December 2022 baseline of 100.1. The index saw a rise to 103.5 in May 2022 and remained almost stable at 107.3 from January to May 2023. Interestingly, this sector had no contribution to the total index change from April to May 2023. Clothing and footwear stood at 4.27 as per the weighting system used in the compilations of consumer price indices in 2023, Statistics Poland said in a press release.

Compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, lower prices related to transport by 3.2 per cent decreased the index by 0.33 percentage points (pp).

The total consumer price index (CPI) in May 2023 stood at 113.0, representing a notable increase from its base level of 100.0 in December 2022. When compared to the same period of the previous year, the index increased to 105.7 and further escalated to 115.7 from January to May 2023.
