Woman sells Canada dream for ₹25L, dumps hubby after marriage

Ludhiana: A woman and her family members have been booked for allegedly duping a Kailash Nagar resident of Rs 25 lakh on the pretext of taking him to Canada after marriage.
The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Kaur, her father Babu Singh, mother Harbans Kaur, brother Rupinder Singh, sister-in-law Paramjit Kaur — all residents of Maksoodra village in Payal — and sister Harpreet Kaur of Jaspal Bangar.
The complainant Harvinder Singh of Kailash Nagar, Doraha, said on 2 January 2019, he married Gurpreet, whom he met through Harpreet who contacted his father after seeing his matrimonial ad in newspaper. Gurpreet was studying in Canada when they got engaged and her family members asked him to pay Gurpreet’s one-year fee after which she would take him to Canada. tnn
