2 min read 20 Jun 2023, 05:59 PM ISTIMD has said that there is a chance of light rain in high-altitude areas and heavy rain in low-lying regions of Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand has been reeling from severe heatwave in the after effects of the severe cyclonic storm, tropical Cyclone Biparjoy. Now the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) in their latest forecast has issued orange and yellow alert for the hilly state, predicting light to heavy rainfall in several low-lying areas.
IMD has said that there is a chance of light rain in high-altitude areas and heavy rain in low-lying regions of Uttarakhand. Dehradun, Nainital, Pauri, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar may experience thunderstorms with strong winds ranging from 60 to 80 kmph.
Chamoli has been witnessing an unfavourable weather pattern since early hours on Tuesday. Reports said that the weather change has however, not affected or disrupted pilgrims travelling to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib. Further Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district experienced a rather favourable dry weather.
IMD forecast: Delhi
The minimum temperature in the national capital on Tuesday settled at 27 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average temperature, the Indian Meteorological Department said.
The weather department has forecast generally cloudy sky with light rain and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds of the speed 30-40 kmph for the day. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius.
IMD forecast: Tamil Nadu
Even though rainfall brought about much relief from the sweltering heat, schools in the state had to remain closed for a second day. According to the weather office, some districts in Tamil Nadu will experience light thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rainfall.
Rainfall is expected at isolated places over Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Myladutivarai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Villupuram districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Karaikal.
IMD forecast: Southwest Monsoon
The weather agency in India has confirmed that the South west Monsoon that had stalled owing to Cyclone Biparjoy will gain momentum in the next 3-4 days.
"Conditions are becoming favourable for strengthening of the monsoon. It will progress quickly from this weekend in central, western and northern parts of the country," said a senior official at the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Isolated areas in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu experienced rainfall on June 20, causing waterlogging on the roads. Southwest Monsoon hit India on June 8 with its onset over Kerala, a week after the usual date of June 1. IMD, in May, had predicted the arrival of monsoon on June 4. Monsoon is crucial, especially for kharif crops dependent on rains.
