Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra 2023 to begin from Jagannath temple in Ahmedabad | Watch

Rath Yatra 2023: Thousands of devotees witnessed the reappearance of sibling deities at the Puri Srimandir during the Nabajouban Darshan festival. Around 7,000 devotees purchased tickets to enter the temple.

The world-famous Rath Yatra will begin from Jagannath temple in Ahmedabad today, Tuesday, June 20. Idols of lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are installed on the chariot to start the Lord Jagannath Yatra.

Devotees thronged the temple premises ahead of the Rath Yatra. Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is on a day-long visit to Gujarat took part in the 'Mangla Aarti' (part of worship) at Jagannath temple in the Jamalpur area.

On Monday, the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra were pulled from the ‘Rathakhala’ on Grand Road and taken to ‘Singhadwar’ of Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri.

The three chariots -- Nandighosh of Lord Jagannath, Taladwaj of Lord Balabhadra and Dwarpadalan of Devi Subhadra were parked in front of the 'Singhadwar' (Lion’s Gate or main gate) of the temple to take the deities to Shree Gundicha Temple on Tuesday.

On the occasion of ‘Nabajouban Darshan’ at the Puri Srimandir on Monday, thousands of devotees witnessed the reappearance of sibling deities..

About 7,000 devotees who purchased tickets got the opportunity to enter the temple for the Nabajouban Darshan, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) chief administrator Ranjan Kumar Das said.

The temple is expecting a congregation of around 10 lakh people in Puri on Tuesday, when the chariots of Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath are pulled till the Shree Gundicha temple, Das said.

As many as 180 platoons (1 platoon comprising 30 personnel) of security forces have been deployed in Puri, said transport commissioner Amitabh Thakur.

The town has been divided into different zones and sections for smooth traffic management, Thakur also said.

A Coast Guard helicopter has also been pressed into service for beach patrolling. Interceptor boats will be stationed at Paradip for any contingency, till July 2, a senior police officer said.

During the festival, total 125 special trains will travel to Puri.

The 'Ratha Yatra' Festival celebrated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is considered to be the second biggest Rath Yatra in the country after the Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra.

Rath Yatra, associated with Lord Jagannath at Shri Kshetra Puri Dham in the state of Odisha, is celebrated on the second day of the two-week-long Ashadha month of the Hindu calendar and this year, it takes place on June 20. It is one of the famous Hindu festivals celebrated across the world.
