2 injured in firing over watering fields
Ludhiana: Two groups of relatives entered into a violent scuffle over watering the fields in Chupki village of Dehlon area on Sunday night.
Nirmal Singh, 46, and his nephew Karanjot Singh, 24, suffered bullet injuries on their left hand and right thigh, respectively, after one group opened fire. They have been admitted to a private hospital.
While Jugraj Singh and Charajeet Singh of the second group also suffered blunt injuries and have been admitted to the Ludhiana Civil Hospital.
Inspector Paramdeep Singh, station house officer at Dehlon police station, said, “The accused have an agricultural land in Chupki village and use canal water for agricultural work. On Sunday, around 8pm, Nirmal Singh along with his nephew Karanjot Singh went to water their fields. Meanwhile, his cousin Kulwinder Singh with both of his sons Jugraj Singh, Charanjeet Singh and accomplice Taari reached there on a tractor and a scooter.”
A scuffle broke out between the groups over water issue, during which Jugraaj brandished a revolver and opened fire. Kulwinder alleged that the other group assaulted them with sticks and blunt weapons, the cops said, adding that the family members of both the groups reached at the spot and rushed injured persons to the hospital.
The police have lodged an FIR against Kulwinder; his sons Jugraj and Charanjeet; and Taari under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of
common object) of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
The preliminary investigation suggests that a licensed .32 bore weapon was used in the crime, which is being verified. tnn
