City gets 14 transformer trolleys to fix snags
Noida: The power department has obtained 14 mobile transformer trolleys, a first for Gautam Budh Nagar, that are expected to cut down the time taken to fix snags. These trolleys can carry a transformer of up to 400 kVA and can replace a transformer in the event of a snag or breakdown.
“We will use six of these for urban areas in Noida and the remaining eight for rural parts. It is the first time that such trolleys have been provided for Noida. This will drastically reduce the time taken to replace and install a new transformer in the event of a breakdown,” said Rajeev Mohan, the chief engineer of the Noida power department at PVVNL.
Meanwhile, residents continue to suffer due to intermittent power cuts.
“For the past few days, there have been outages daily for short to long durations. We have no hope of redress, as we’ve cried hoarse for a long time now,” said a resident of Sector 30.
Sector 51 residents also complained of similar power cuts throughout Sunday and Monday.
While the majority of the power cuts are due to local faults, officials maintained that they are focusing on addressing these first as opposed to the power infrastructure revamp, which is also underway in various stages.
“One of the reasons for long outages is the time taken to fix a local fault. Many times, these occur due to a cable or a transformer fault,” said a power department official.

The department also plans to upgrade feeder and metre panels in several residential sectors and has fixed a Rs 2 crore budget for the work.
Several parts of the city also faced water shortages on Monday. While taps ran dry at Sector 51 homes, there were complaints of very low water pressure in sectors Delta 2 and Omicron 2 in Greater Noida.
“There has been no water supply for the past couple of days. People are forced to buy water from private tankers that charge between Rs 1,400 and Rs 1,600,” said Sanjeev Kumar, the RWA general secretary of Sector 51.
