Apollo Hospitals and Smart Joules Forge a Path to a Greener Future with Energy Efficiency Drive

Apollo Hospitals has set its sights on sustainability by collaborating with energy efficiency innovators Smart Joules. The ten-year initiative, aimed at reducing carbon emissions by 2,90,000 tons, showcases Apollo Hospitals’ commitment to environmental responsibility.

India is at the forefront of climate action, with ambitious targets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070 and reduce carbon emissions by a billion tonnes by 2030. Apollo Hospitals’ partnership with Smart Joules aligns with these national goals.

At the heart of this initiative is Smart Joules’ JoulePAYS solution, a revolutionary model allowing clients to retrofit their existing buildings for energy efficiency with no initial investment.

Apollo Hospitals swiftly implemented JoulePAYS, taking 235 energy conservation measures within four months. The hospital is projected to save over 235 million kWh and INR 2 billion by 2030 through these efforts.

Dr. K Hariprasad, President of Apollo Hospitals, stated, “We have been able to optimize our cooling, heating, ventilation, and automation systems across our hospitals, significantly saving energy without compromising on any aspect of the patient experience.”

Apollo Hospitals’ initiative is a prime example of how the healthcare industry can contribute significantly to fighting climate change. Energy consumption in hospitals is high, and adopting energy-efficient measures can have a considerable impact on reducing carbon emissions.

Moreover, this collaboration sends a message to other industry players about the feasibility of incorporating sustainability into business models without compromising operational efficiency or quality of service.

Arjun P. Gupta, CEO of Smart Joules, highlighted their commitment to supporting Indian businesses in achieving sustainable development goals. Smart Joules is on a mission to reduce 29 million tons of carbon emissions by 2030, and its partnership with Apollo Hospitals is a major step toward this goal.

The healthcare sector is uniquely positioned to lead by example in sustainability efforts. As institutions dedicated to preserving human health, it is only fitting that they should also play a part in preserving the health of our planet.

Apollo Hospitals’ energy efficiency drive is an inspiration for other healthcare providers to evaluate their carbon footprints and to invest in sustainable practices. Through collaborations like this, the healthcare sector can be a formidable ally in the fight against climate change.
