PATNA: Bihar is witnessing seemingly the longest heatwave spell over the last 10 years and Saturday was one of the hottest days of the season in the state as 18 places reeled under severe heatwave and four others under heatwave.
The mercury in at least 11 districts surged past 44 degrees C with severe heatwave on Saturday.
As per the records with Patna Meteorological Centre, the current spell of heatwave started on May 31 and the extreme heat conditions are likely to continue in several areas of south Bihar over the next two days as well.
Ashish Kumar Singh, scientist at Patna Meteorological Centre, told TOI on Saturday that the last longest spell of heatwave in Bihar stretched over 19 days in 2012.
He attributed the ongoing heatwave spell to prolonged direct solar heating and absence of thundershowers.
