With tensions rising in West Bengal ahead of the Panchayat Elections next month, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakashi Lekhi on June 18 in Delhi took her shot at the state government and said the public of the state is not being heard. Recalling the rising number of attack incidents on the BJP leaders in the state, the MoS alleged that the people are even ‘being killed’ for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in WB. “Not just BJP leaders are being attacked, but the public as well is not being heard in West Bengal. They are not respecting the orders by the judiciary. The situation is not good and the state government wants to run the state in its own way. People can even get killed if they chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. They were violent with many BJP workers. Not letting the elections take place in a proper way, is disrespect of democracy,” Lekhi said. With West Bengal scheduled to hold its Panchayat Polls in the coming next month, the state is witnessing an increased number of violence incidents. Many of the incidents involved tension between the BJP and the TMC in the state.
