Chennai: 14 people nabbed under Goondas Act

CHENNAI: At least 14 people including a rowdy Kuthirai Suresh and Muttai Bajji were detained under the Goondas Act. Among the arrested there was Mohammad Iliyas, who was arrested in a fake passport racket case, under the Goondas Act. Altogether, the city police have detained 238 people under the Goondas Act over a period from January 1, 2023, to June 16, 2023.
The city police said that they have detained 159 offenders for creating ruckus and disturbing the public’s tranquillity.
Several involved in chain snatching, robbery, waylaying and cheating cases were also booked.As many as 45 criminal offenders involved in robbery, theft and cheating were also booked under the Goondas Act. Twenty suspects were arrested for smuggling ganja and selling contraband, while six others were nabbed for selling illicit liquor and running prostitution rackets.tnn
