Design institute to get a new name
More postgraduate, PhD courses in technology and AI are likely
NOIDA: The Uttar Pradesh Institute of Design in Sector 62 will be renamed the Faculty of Design under APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU). Currently, UPID runs as a constituent college of AKTU.
Officials said that soon, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) will get involved in the evaluation of the curriculum.
The AKTU vice-chancellor also said that the university plans to start more postgraduate and PhD courses in technology and artificial intelligence at the Faculty of Design.
“The (renaming) proposal has been discussed and approved at the executive council meeting in Lucknow. However, we are waiting for the government’s approval,” AKTU vice-chancellor JP Pandey told TOI.
However, there will be no change in the academic or funding status. “Only the name will change. Through AKTU, NAAC and NIRF will evaluate the academic curriculum, the funding and academic structure will remain the same,” said Pandey.
The executive council meeting also approved the extension of the tenure of Praveen Pachauri as the director of the Faculty of Design for the next five years.
Currently, the institute offers bachelor’s and master’s programmes in design.
