NOIDA: A Banaras Hindu University student was among two youths arrested for allegedly smuggling over 350kg of cannabis worth Rs 60 lakh from Odisha to Delhi. Two other youths trailing them in another managed to give cops the slip.
The two arrested youths were identified as Manjay Kumar Yadav, originally from Bihar, and Vinay Kumar Dubey, a UP resident and BHU student. Police said they were travelling in a black MG Hector with the cannabis when they were stopped near Pari Chowk.
The cops are looking for Sudama Chaudhary and Pawan Mishra, who managed to escape in a white Swift Dzire.
"On Saturday, cops at the Expressway police station received a tip-off that four youths would be smuggling a large amount of cannabis in two cars from Jabalpur and move through Greater Noida," said Harish Chander, DCP (Noida).
A service road near the Chhaprauli cut, which the youths were likely to pass through, was cordoned off. As expected, the car took the service road from Pari Chowk. They tried to take another route after seeing the police team, but the cops managed to intercept the Hector. The two others in the Swift Dzire managed to escape.
"The police team recovered around 360kg of cannabis in two crates. The youths were on their way to Delhi to deliver the consignment. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the youths would charge Rs 15,000 each for smuggling cannabis from one place to another," the DCP said.

"The youths, it appears, do not have any information on the source of the cannabis. But we are examining their claims. As of now, we have not found any criminal records of them," he added.
