Varanasi: The Cantt police busted a gang involved in looting money from youths of
Rajasthan and other states by assuring them to arrange bride for their marriage, by arresting five persons, including three women of Chandauli district on Friday.
Police said it was the second such gang of fraudsters found operating from Chandauli district in less than four months.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Varuna zone, Amit Kumar said on receiving a complaint from Mahesh Kumar of Jaipur in Rajasthan on June 15, Cantt police lodged a case under Sections 419, 420, 406, 504, 506, 386, 120B and 411 of IPC. Later, the cops arrested Hevanti and Uday Narain of Saiyyedraja in Chandauli, Asha, Puja and Suresh from Pisaur area in Varanasi. Police also recovered a smartphone, silver and gold jewelleries and cash Rs 3,061 from them.
During initial interrogation, Suresh confessed that they used to contact unmarried youths and their families on the pretext of arranging a bride. They even introduce a girl and once the marriage proposal gets finalized, fake documents of the girl are used for notarial marriage in local courts. After that, the gang used to hide the bride and start blackmailing and threatening the groom and his family.
In the latest case, Mahesh was trapped by the gang in the same style.After extorting Rs 1.60 lakh from Mahesh, the gang had threatened him of dire consequences demanding Rs 1 lakh more from him. Finding no option, helpless Mahesh lodged an FIR against them.
Earlier in February, Government Railway Police (GRP) Varanasi Junction had succeeded in arresting Gudia Yadav (21), the `bride’ who had fled with cash and ornaments after drugging groom Ankit Maheshwari of Ajmer in Rajasthan and his family members in Jaipur-bound Marudhar Express train on February 7. Maheshwari and his family were called to Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar in Chandauli for marriage.
