BHUBANESWAR: The city recorded a temperature of over 44 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day on Saturday as interior and coastal pockets witnessed severe heatwave conditions with the mercury hovering between 42 and over 45 degrees, affecting lives.
The mercury touched at 44.3 degrees in the capitalCuttack recorded 42.1C, seven degrees above the normal. Sonepur was the hottest in the state at 45.7C.
The IMD said a few places in 13 districts - Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda and Balangir - will experience severe heatwave for three days from Sunday. Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in five more districts - Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nuapada.
"Heatwave conditions will gradually reduce by June 20 with a decrease of 3-5C," said H R Biswas, head of the regional IMD centre.
