BENGALURU: A special court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act recently held a 31-year-old man guilty of sexually abusing a minor girl in 2021, sentencing him to rigorous imprisonment of five years and fining him Rs 60,000.
The man had imitated the voice of the girl's father and barged into her house.
G Gaviyappa is a resident of Nelagedaranahalli in Peenya. Police in the chargesheet had said Gaviyappa, a daily-wage worker, had entered the house of the 11-year-old when her parents had gone out for work and sexually abused her on January 13, 2021.
"Saying her father had sent him to bring her home, Gaviyappa met the girl while she was returning from school. However, he was stopped midway by an acquaintance and as they were speaking, the girl walked back to her house, opened the lock and sat down to eat. After some time, Gaviyappa came to the house. Mimicking her father's voice, he called the girl by her name. Thinking her father was at the door, the girl opened it and the accused barged in and sexually abused her after threatening her," said public prosecutor P Krishnaveni.
Girl told mom about it
The girl narrated the incident to her mother the same evening and she filed a police complaint. Gaviyappa has been in judicial custody of Bengaluru Central Prison since January 14, 2021 as his attempts to secure bail have been futile.
