Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said the state’s renewable energy policy would soon be forwarded to the central government.

“We have prepared a related descriptive plan and Goa is the first Indian state to do so,” he added, pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has applauded Goa for the same.

Speaking further, the Chief Minister said the state government by 2030 will convert major part of its energy into renewable energy.

Prime Minister had tweeted that he was happy to see Goa harnessing the power of the sun. “This collaborative effort will boost sustainable development,” he had added.

Sawant, in response, maintained that “with it being the land of sun and sand, Goa provides the perfect setting to harness solar energy and embrace sustainable energy consumption.”

“The collaborative efforts of the Goa Energy Development Agency, the department of new and renewable energy and the electricity department have resulted in the launch of subsidies for solar panel installations accessible through a user-friendly portal inspiring the people of Goa to adopt environment-friendly methods of electricity generation,” he added.

Sawant also said that his government is walking the transformative path set by the Prime Minister, realising the vision of establishing solar-based households throughout the state and is taking significant strides towards a greener and more sustainable future for Goa.
