RANCHI: CPI national general secretary D Raja on Saturday claimed that the meeting of opposition parties in Patna on June 23 is very important for defeating
BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha election and saving the Constitution and democracy.
Raja questioned why Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, who delivers 'Mann ki Baat' every month, is keeping a studied silence over the violence in
Manipur and also on the protest staged by the wrestlers against BJP MP Brij Bhushan. No action has been taken against the MP yet, he said.
Raja said the opposition's move towards unity has made BJP jittery and alleged that the latter is trying to instigate a section of the residents against another in the country to polarise them.
He said, "BJP and its allies must be thrown out of power in the 2024 general elections or else our democracy would be in peril. Our party has been consistently saying that all secular parties should come together to fight the BJP-led alliance."
Raja said though
Bihar CM
Nitish Kumar has taken the initiative, he is not the only face of opposition unity and added it is a collective effort of all secular political parties matured enough to form a coalition government at the Centre.
He alleged that the Centre has failed to tackle the basic issue of livelihood of people. "Our nation is passing through multiple crises. Poverty and unemployment are growing and people are suffering. There are attacks on the working class and farmers by the Centre."
The Communist party leader also claimed that the PM had promised maximum governance and minimum government but "we are seeing misgovernance".
Former MP Bhubaneshwar Mehta said the CPI's state general body meeting and the convention would be held in Ramgarh to discuss the political situation of the state over the next two days.
