20-year-old held for murdering friend, dumping body in river in Thane
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Maharashtra's Thane district for allegedly murdering his friend and dumping the body in a river, an official said on Saturday.
THANE: A 20-year-old man was arrested in Maharashtra's Thane district for murdering his friend and disposing of the body in a nearby river, an official said on Saturday.
According to the official, the suspect stated that he committed the murder because the victim frequently made derogatory comments about his deceased parents.
Prasad Pandhre, the senior inspector of Murbad police station, reported that on June 11, a body of a man was discovered in a river within their jurisdiction.
The body was found tied to a large stone. Subsequently, as the Murbad police initiated their investigation, they received a complaint regarding a missing individual named Hemant, also known as Kiran Nandu Kadav (24), hailing from Dhanivali in the vicinity. Upon further examination, it was determined that the recovered body from the river belonged to Kadav.
Based on valuable intelligence and technological insights, the police focused their attention on Radheshyam Mohilal Singh, who happened to be a close friend of Kadav.
Police learnt that Singh had lost his parents when he was young. He and Kadav became friends six months ago and would drink together at times. However, Kadav would pass abusive remarks on Singh's parents, the official said quoting the suspect.
Tired of his friend's snide remarks, Singh hit Kadav with a stone and strangulated him to death before dumping the body in a river, the official added.
