Firing at cops: Bail denied in Sancoale case
Colva: Additional sessions judge Bosco Roberts on Friday rejected the bail application of a man accused of shooting at police personnel during a botched burglary attempt at a Sancoale bungalow.
Mahmood Yakoob, 44, a native of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, had applied for bail. Another accused in the case, Sajid Ansari, had implicated Yakoob as the mastermind of the crime.
The prosecution objected to the bail, submitting that the applicant is an ex-convict. It said that during the investigation, tools such as a pickaxe and a screwdriver were found at the scene. One empty bullet casing was also recovered, the prosecution said.
In the small hours of May 22, some persons attempted to burgle the locked bungalow of Anant Amonkar at Zuarinagar, Sancoale. When police arrived, they were fired at.
The prosecution said Ansari had revealed that another accused in the case who is still at large, Javed, had fired at police.
Judge Roberts observed that five persons are suspected to be involved in the case.
