Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday hailed India’s remarkable achievement of administering 220 crore Covid vaccine doses through the fully digital platform known as COWIN. He emphasized that this feat, unimaginable by developed western countries, was made possible under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking at the inauguration of the “Doctor on Wheels" free telemedicine startup mobile camp in Billawar, the minister highlighted the significance of India’s digital platform in the country’s successful vaccination campaign. He stated that the COWIN platform had not only streamlined the vaccination process but also ensured efficient tracking and management of the vaccine doses.

Singh further informed that the mobile telemedicine service being provided in Jammu & Kashmir, entirely through non-government sources, was now in its third phase. The previous phases covered remote villages in Gandoh in the Doda district and far-flung villages along the International Border in the Kathua district, which were previously deprived of adequate medical services.

Jitendra Singh emphasized that the free telemedicine facility in Billawar aimed to address the challenges of accessibility, availability, and affordability in healthcare services. By overcoming these barriers, the mobile camp ensures quality medical services, eliminates the need for extensive travel, and reduces consultation and treatment costs.

The minister cited examples of metro hospitals, where patients typically incur expenses exceeding fifty thousand rupees and face long waiting times, contrasting it with the convenience and affordability provided by the telemedicine mobile camp.

Highlighting India’s technological advancements, Jitendra Singh asserted that the country was on par with the most developed nations globally. He emphasized that the telemedicine services offered in India were comparable to those provided anywhere in the world and expressed optimism about the future use of advanced robotic surgeries through telemedicine.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to serving the poor and emphasized that the “Seva, Samparan, and Start-up" mantra of PM Narendra Modi was reflected in the free telemedicine mobile services. These initiatives aim to provide extraordinary medical facilities to individuals from low socio-economic backgrounds, ensuring that quality healthcare reaches all sections of society.
