China asks last Indian journalist to leave, as India-China relations worsen
Earlier this year, Indian media had four reporters based in China.

The tension between India and China is increasing day by day. As per reports the Chinese authorities has asked a Press Trust Of India reporter to leave the country this month. This comes at a time when both Beijing and Delhi is ejecting each other’s reporter in a tit-for-tat row leading to deepening rift between the Asian economic powerhouses.
Earlier this year, Indian media had four reporters based in China. Reportedly, Hindustan Times reporter had already left over the weekend. Two journalists from the Hindu newspaper and Prasad Bharti were refused Visa renewal in China this April.
There has been no response from the Chinese authorities regarding this matter yet. The Ministry of external affairs also did not comment on this. Last month, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning had said that there was one Chinese journalist left in India, who was still awaiting his Visa’s renewal. Earlier, New Delhi had denied visa applications of two reporters from Xinhua News Agency and China Central Television.
In the past month, the Indian government said Chinese reporters had been operating in the country without any problem. However, this was not the case of Indian journalists in China. The Indian government further added that communication were being carried out over the issue between the two countries.
As per reports, the Visa renewal tussle started when Indian journalists started hiring assistants in China to assist them in reporting. The Chinese government asserted that maximum three reporters could be hired by Indian journalists who were to be provided by the Chinese government.
The India-China relations have been tense since the deadly fight on the India-China border in 2020. China has tried to keep the dispute separate from other issues like trade and economic relations. India has kept a firm stance by stating that relations will not go back to normal till all the border disputes are resolved.
The Visa rejections come at a time when India is ready to host the Group of Twenty and the Chinese founded Shanghai Cooperation dialogue meetings this year. Chinese president, Xi Jinping is expected to attend the G-20 leaders summit in September as China looks to build its political presence globally.
