NOIDA: A five-year-old boy who had walked out of bed while his parents were still asleep allegedly fell through the grille of an eight-floor balcony of a highrise in Sector 78 and died early on Friday.
Police said the private hospital where an injured Akshat was taken to informed them about the fall around 9am.
"When a police team reached the hospital, doctors said he had died. The family members were present, but they were too shocked to speak," a police officer said.
Sources in the police said the boy's father, Prabhat Chauhan, was a software engineer at an MNC and lived in an eight-floor flat in Hyde Park society with his wife and two kids. The family is originally from Bihar.
Around 5.45am on Friday, Akshat woke up and walked to the balcony that has a few flowerpots and plants. His family said the little boy would often wake up early in the morning and walk around the house. "We are still trying to find out how exactly he fell off the balcony. Most likely, he slipped through the wide gap between the grilles. The boy was taken to a private hospital in Sector 71, where he died," the officer said.
Residents said the Chauhan family would keep to themselves. "The security guard who spotted the boy lying face down and oozing blood kept looking for his parents for about 20 minutes. After a few enquiries in other flats, the guards finally knocked on the door of his parents," the officer said.

The height of balcony railings at Hyde Park is around 4.5ft. Residents expressed concern about it.
"I shifted here five months ago. Since the height of railings is low, I don't allow my two-year-old son to go to the balcony alone. I even keep the door locked most of the times," said Deepshikha Singh, who lives on the third floor.
