PremiumDays before the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the USA, Indian diaspora is preparing in it own way to welcome their leader from their homeland. A PM Modi fan was seen flaunting his 'NMODI' number plate on his car in Maryland, USA in a video shared by ANI.
The number plate was fixed to this by car owner Raghavendra in 2016. He said that PM Modi inspires him to do something good for the nation, for society, for the world. He expressed his eagerness to welcome the Indian PM in the USA.
“I took this plate back in 2016, November. Narendra Modi is an inspiration to me. He inspires me to do something good for the nation, for society, for the world. PM Modi is coming here so I'm eagerly waiting to welcome him," Raghavendra told ANI.
He also said that he initially wanted his number plate to be embossed with title ‘NARENDRA MODI’ but authorities denied him because of the long text. Then he asked them to give a number plate with title ‘NMODI’, which was accepted.
Raghavendra's Honda Odyssey mini van had the ‘NMODI’ number plate on its front as well as back side.
Is it possible to have a customised number plate in USA?
Different states of USA have their own motor vehicle rule. In USA's Virginia format of the vehicle number set from March 2014 till present is ‘ABC-1234’.
Other than this format, Virginia provides an option of ‘customised number plate’ and ‘special plate’ for motorists. ‘Special plate’ provided by Virginia department of motor vehicles enable people with a common interest to identify or promote themselves or their cause. Motorists can also have their own ‘Personalised plates’ in which they can add a personalised character character combination to their plates using up to seven characters at the cost of $10 a year in additon to other charges.
