In the euro area, the job vacancy rate in the first quarter of 2023 was 2.7 per cent in industry, while in the EU the rate was 2.5 per cent in industry, according to figures published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU.
Among the member states for which comparable data are available, the highest job vacancy rates in Q1 2023 were recorded in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Austria—4.7 per cent in all of them. By contrast, the lowest rates were observed in Bulgaria, Spain, Poland, and Romania—0.9 per cent in all of them.
Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, the job vacancy rate increased in three member states, remained stable in eight member states, and decreased in 16 member states. The increases were observed in Greece at 0.6 percentage points (pp), Italy and Sweden—both at 0.1 pp. The largest decreases were recorded in Czechia at -1.5 pp, Denmark at -0.7 pp, and Latvia and Finland—at -0.6 pp in both of them.
