Gang snatching mobile phones busted, in Surat, three held with 120 cellphones

Surat: Three members of a gang that specialize in snatching mobile phones from people were arrested by the Umra police on Wednesday. The cops seized 120 mobile phones worth Rs 22 lakh from them.
Those arrested include Sahid alias Sahil alias Raja Saiyed, Mufez Rauf Multani and Siddik Kapadiya.
According to police, Multani and Saiyed used to snatch the phones while Kapadiya bought the stolen mobiles from the duo.
Police have detected 18 mobile snatching cases in Vesu, Umra, Althan, Adajan, Pal, Salabatpura and other areas. The accused also confessed to 38 other crimes during police investigation.
Surat zone-4 deputy commissioner of police Sagar Bagmar told TOI, “We nabbed one mobile snatcher recently. During interrogation, he revealed details about the gang operating in the city. Based on his information, police busted this gang and seized 120 mobiles. We have also received one diary which with details of 13 other gang members. Saiyed and Multani are historysheeters.”
“As mobile snatching was rampant in Surat, we expect more detection involving this gang. We have also declared Rs 10,000 cash prize for Umra police for cracking the case,” he added.
