Kanpur: Four policemen including a police station in-charge and three constables were injured when an irate mob pelted stones on them in Dibiyapur police area of Auraiya district on Wednesday.
One Anil Dohre (35), a mason and resident of Jhabar Ka Purwa, had died under mysterious circumstances on the intervening night of June 11 and 12. The postmortem report of the deceased confirmed death due to suffocation.
The situation turned volatile when family members of Anil gathered in front of their neighbour Santosh’s house on Wednesday and said that he had killed Anil.
They locked Santosh’s house from outside and demanded that a murder case be registered against him. Meanwhile, someone informed the police that Anil’s family members have surrounded Santosh’s house. As soon as the police reached the spot, they started pelting stones on them.
Four policemen, including station house officer Dibiyapur, were injured in the stone pelting. The mob also damaged the police vehicle. Dibiyapur police station in-charge RK Sharma, head constable Ranvijay Singh, head constable Dharmendra and constable Ramprakash, who suffered injuries were admitted to the district hospital.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, senior district and police officials reached the spot and pacified the angry mob.
District magistrate Neha Prakash and superintendent of police Charu Nigam reached Dibiyapur police station and took details with regard to the incident.
“We went to the spot and thoroughly investigated the entire matter. We have assured Anil’s family that further action will be taken on the basis of evidence and as per the law,” said SP Charu Nigam.
