Kanpur: Assistant commandant of 28th Vahini of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), Rakesh Kumar Nayak (55) and his wife attempted suicide on Tuesday night in Etawah district, police said.
Both were rushed to the district hospital in a critical condition from where they were referred to
Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai. A native of Gorakhpur, Nayak is posted as assistant commandant of 28th Vahini PAC in Etawah. He lives with his family at the officers block in the 28th PAC Vahini complex itself. On Tuesday night, he apparently tried to hang himself while his wife Jagruti (46) consumed poison following a spat over some issue.
After coming across commotion, the PAC jawans deputed at Nayak’s residence for night duty reached the spot and immediately took both of them to the district hospital in a critical condition.
From there, they were referred to Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, police said adding that prima facie it appears that the couple resorted to extreme step due to some family discord, although investigations are continuing. On being informed, superintendent of police (City)
